The US Supreme Court is dashing any hopes of a quick rollback of President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

By Jan Wolfe WASHINGTON, Jan 24 (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court justices appear reluctant to grant President Donald Trump's request to let him immediately remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. But their eventual ruling following this week's arguments in the case may not give Cook a sweeping victory.

During arguments Wednesday, key justices appeared concerned that president’s efforts to oust Lisa Cook could imperil the central bank’s independence.

The U.S. Supreme Court seems inclined to reject President Donald Trump’s effort to immediately oust Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook.

President Trump moved to fire Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors last August. Courts have so far allowed her to continue serving in her role while litigation continues.

The Supreme Court on Thursday gave California Democrats a week to respond to the California Republican Party’s request to block the new Democrat-drawn congressional district maps from being used in November.

The Supreme Court has gone along for years with President Donald Trump’s unconventional moves and brash legal arguments, as the conservative majority emphasized its regard for the presidency and appeared willing to accept the cost to its own reputation.
