NTL Telewest is developing a voice-over-IP residential telephone service and has appointed telecoms giant Ericsson to help roll it out. A five year agreement has been signed between the two parties.

While many companies may wait for their PBXs to die before diving into voice-over-IP, the technology could find its way into other corporations soon as an outsourced service, such as IP Centrex.
