A coverstitch is a professional hemming stitch that creates two or three parallel rows of stitching on the fabric's right side and a chain stitch (looped) on the wrong side.

A coverstitch is formed by two or more needles which add straight stitches to one side of the fabric and a looper thread on the opposite side of the fabric that zig-zags between the straight stitches.
